This is a scratch built WW 2, D-day LCT (Landing Craft Tank). The real one was involved in the D-day invasion, as well as others. This model I had a buddy of mine build the hull; he did the ribs and skinned it for me. I did the rest, and added about another 8 inches to the hull. This LCT is fully RC, powered with a pair of twin small Pittman pump motors, a 12 volt gel cell battery, and an older Futaba 6 channel radio.
The door is set up to open and close and the RC tank was set up to come out and go back in. The tanks are 1/32 scale. The ship is 37 inches long about 6 inches wide, and fully watertight. I did all of the detail except for the crew- cheated on that one- from the 1/32 PT-109 kit.
I used Model Master paints. Wood construction took about 3 months, working on and off when I had the time. This will be my last ship for awhile. I always knew when this ship was done it would my last. I have had this model in mind for a couple of years.
The real LCT was built and laid down OCT 26 1943. Assigned to the European theater during WW 2. She was involved in the D-day invasion and was landing troops and supplies. The LCT went to Greece in 1959 to 1962; final disposition unknown.
My future plans are to help others with what I have learned over the last 18 years of ship building. So if I can help just get in touch and if I can help, I will do my best.
