This kit was built to represent USS Oregon as she appeared in San Francisco enroute to the Caribbean theater of operations in 1898. The ship was painted gray before arriving off Cuba.
This kit was detailed by the addition of rigging, cast lead details, signal lights, glazing on bridge windows, anchor chains and ropes, and PE from a Gold Medal Models set that included parts for both Oregon and cruiser Olympia. Special emphasis was spent on detailing the ship's boats, with oars, stores, and liferings. The steam pinnace was modeled with a scratchbuilt brass boiler and steam engine, canvas awning and wire hoop supports.
Three of the pictures show Oregon displayed alongside protected cruiser USS Olympia (currently in gallery).
I obtained this kit from my friend Don MacDonald, trading him a Lindberg USS Olympia kit for it. He had already built an Oregon, I had already built an Olympia, and we each had an extra unopened kit to swap.
