I built this model using photos and drawing in National Geographic Magazine. The bottom portion of the hull was cut away as in a waterline model. Details were added according to the photos. The Memorial Hall was scratchbuilt from clear plastic. Tour boats were modified from open ships' boats, and "float" alongside scratchbuilt docks on hidden wires.
The intact ship was built box stock. Both models were painted with acrylics. The "mud" surrounding the sunken ship is concrete patching material applied over plywood.:
