USS West Virginia BB-48

1/1200 USS West Virginia BB-48 (Superior)

This is the Superior 1/1200 metal model of the battleship USS West Virginia, BB 48, shown as she appeared at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack in December 1941. She took six or seven torpedoes in the attack and sank. She was raised and refloated to the West Coast and, in 1944, she emerged reconstructed with an entirely new appearance. As rebuilt, she more closely resembled the South Dakota class fast battleships than the other ships of her class that were not so extensively modernized, the Colorado and the Maryland.

Eventually I will post some photos of a 1/2400 GHQ model I have made of the West Virginia in her 1944 post-reconstruction appearance.
