1/350 USS Massachusetts BB-59 (Trumpeter)
The main objective of this build was to fill a gap in my collection
and to try out the Model Master naval paints. They looked accurate to me;
I especially liked the Haze Gray. This model was intended to be a mid-1943
rendition, with Measure 22 camouflage. I’m not sure I made it, even with
two excellent references:
U.S. Battleships in Color by Steve Wiper USS Massachusetts-Technical
Reference 2 by Randall S. Shoker, plus the accompanying Tom Walkowiak plans.
I didn’t add much in the way of aftermarket parts--about 200 PE pieces--from
Tom’s Model Works.
This kit had been a shelf queen of mine for several years. As a result,
the decals were not workable and I had to use some from my stash. In addition,
I purchased Invisiclear decals from Gold Medal Models for the hull depth
markings.
The take away value for me in building this kit was that I came to appreciate the design of the ship—lots of firepower in an efficient layout and size.
