BB-61 USS Iowa
By Kim Taylor
1/350 USS Iowa BB-61 1945 (Tamiya)
This is Tamiyas 1/350th Missouri which I've modified to depict
the Iowa after her January-March 1945 refit.Evergreen and Plastruct were
used to modifiy the superstructure and to constuct the 20mm platform on
turret #2.It took me a while to decide what blue to use for the measure
22 scheme for the hull. I finally settled on Modelmaster dark sea blue
since in some of the early photos of the ship running trials off California
the paint scheme seemed quite dark. The upperworks were painted with Humbrol
#127 ,the hull below the waterline is Modelmaster British Crimson, and the
horizontal surfaces are Modelmaster Panzer Schwarzgrau.Gold Medal Models
photo etching was used for the finishing touches.I've been building models
since I was 5 years old and have done some commision work for people on
occasion. My current project is a 1/100th scale Bismarck.
