This model was my very first 1/350 scale kit and it was a gift from my dad after I completed my Secondary 2 examinations back in Oct 1990. At that time, this was my masterpiece at the age of 14, which was long before I embarked on building the Titanic, Enterprise or Yamato. Before I ever attempted weathering on ships. What impressed me about this ship, together with 3 of its other sisterships of the Iowa class( USS Iowa BB-61, Missouri BB-63 and Wisconsin BB-64 ), was that they were veteran battleships which saw action and survived World War 2. In these Iowa class battleships, you see a mixture of past and present, old and new. Post war 1980s weaponry and equipment installed on a 1940s hull and superstructure. An interesting blend of history and present to be seen on this currently out of service ship indeed!
