1/350 USS Missouri BB-63 (Scratchbuilt)

This model was scratchbuilt in 1999. It earned a gold medal in Naviga (Ship World Championship), in the diorama catagory.

It is made of wood and paper. I used this model to produce the larger part of my photo-etching, with mixed results . For instance, the crew is too rigid (but I tried 0,3 mm thickness, which is too much). The crane, MK 38 and catapults are from Gold Medal Models.

It was also the first time I made the water with acrylic painting mixed with medium gel and covered with micro satin. I know now, that the flags are wrong (50 stars). I did not know it was 48 at this time. I have lost some points during the contest because of that.

The documentation about MISSOURI is huge and the reference is the PLAN book from The Floating Drydock. But at this time I missed this book and used different plans, which was a big mistake because even the best plans are never similar.
