USS Montana

1/350 USS Montana BB-67 (Revell Kitbash)

This is a kitbash RC kit/ship. his kit started out as a 1/350 Revell Big MOE kit about 31" long about 2 inches wide and draft. As I have seen a while back some one else did a Montana and did a very fine job. This what made me do some thinking about sending mine in. It has been a while since I have sent anything in, so I figure it was about time.

I will agree with what he said there is very little information on this ship. Like him, I had to my own share of research. The Montana was going to be wider and longer then Iowas were, but would have been built on the same hull ideas as the Iowas. She had 1 more 16" turret, along with many more small guns, and 5"/38 and power. She would have been the largest battleship of her time if she would have been built.

I had to do some scratch building and some changing to make it come out the way I wanted. As well as casting some of the new extra parts that I needed. All of the white you see was scratch, including the bridge area. I had to extend part of the upper deck for the 4th 16" turret. I did use parts from the MOE kit whenever I could but ended up doing a lot of changing and building more parts.

One more thing about this one; I also set it up for R/C. The inside props are my power props and the outside ones will turn freely. They are not powered. It is set up with a pair of small 1.3 to 1.6 amp motors. About the same you would find in G scale trains. Also have 1/8" shafts inside and 3/16" outside hollow tubes for the shafts and 1" brass props

Had to build all of shafts, the skegs and the rudders from brass. Using one standard Futaba servo along with the reciver and a standard 2 channel radio. I can use a small 6V Gel cell or even a standard 6 cell pack. I am also using a standard Novak speed control. At this time I have not been able to get into the pond with pictures when I do I will send them in.

I used Testors paints, styrene plactic and some filler when I needed it. Also used foam for ballast to keep it upright. If any of you have any questions please just ask I am more then willing to answer any if i can.
