1/700 DKM Scharnhorst (Tamiya)
This is my version of Tamiya's vintage 1/700 Scharnhorst. I enhanced
it with Tom's PE and scratch built masts. I wanted it to appear on the
eve of its last operation at the Cape in December 1943. That meant some
complex camo that I handled by masking the entire hull and removing pieces
with X-Acto's finest blade. I like to play with colors and spent a lot
of time getting the right RAL renditions (four of them as I recall) using
Vallejo Model Color and Revell Aquacolor paints. Considering the theater
and time of war I weathered it pretty heavily using oil washes and Com.Art's
invaluable paints used by the model railroaders but few others. The rigging
is done with Berkeley Fireline (.06mm diameter) which is nearly as thin
as the finest fly-tying lines but far more workable. The little beast took
nearly two months but I rather like it.
