 TIRPITZ – LATE 1942

Here is my rendering of the German Battleship Tirpitz, sister ship to the Bismarck, as she would have appeared in late ‘42 when she was berthed at Bogenfjord, Norway. For this build, which took place between Aug/18 to early Jan/20, I used the Tamiya Tirpitz with a lot of borrowings from the Revell Germany Tirpitz.  All the 20mm single guns, 20mm quad AA guns and 30mm twin gun mounts were from Revell Germany.
My only departure from the late ‘42 camo/paint scheme for my model was my use of RLM66 (a dark grey well known to Luftwaffe enthusiasts) for the main turret tops instead of the orangish-red color actually used.  Besides borrowings from the Revell Germany Tirpitz, the following aftermarket sets and accessories were also used in my Tirpitz build:

* White Ensign Models 1/350 Ultimate Bismarck/Tirpitz Photoetched Set (PE3529)
* White Ensign Models 1/350 Bismarck/Tirpitz Superstructure Deck Plating Set (PE3565)
* Veteran Models 1/350 Kriegsmarine Ammunition Box Set (VTW35054)
* Veteran Models 1/350 Kriegsmarine Searchlight Set (VTW35058)
* Veteran Models 1/350 Kriegsmarine Fire Control Set (VTW35059)
* Veteran Models 1/350 Kriegsmarine Observation Equipment Set (VTW35060)
* Veteran Models 1/350 Kriegsmarine 10.5cm weapons (VTW35062)
* Pontos 1/350 DKM Tirpitz Wooden Deck Type 1 (35007WD1)
* Trumpeter 1/350 Arado 196 Floatplanes (06206)
* Begemot 1/350 Kriegsmarine Naval Decals (35004)
* Fine E-Z Line in the following colours for the ship’s cable reels: rope, black, copper & rust
* Tom’s Modelworks 1-350 Scale Rail Set (3501)
* 0.18 mm thick Piano Wire

I hope you enjoy the images.
