This is my model of the Revell Scharnhorst. I consider this ship to be a battleship rather than a battlecruiser (as the British considered it) because that was what the German navy classed it as.
The model was built with a few added details. The 10.5 cm heavy antiaircraft guns were rebuilt with scratchbuilt gun barrels. Life rafts and vent ducting for "B" turret were fabricated, along with turret periscopes. Added detailing was applied to the bridge and the plane. The molded-on degaussing cable was removed and replaced with wire. Anchor chains were replaced and the molded-on stern anchor replaced by a freestanding one. Spars and railings were added. GMM PE was applied.
The paint scheme is based on drawings by Antonio Bonomi, showing the ship as she appeared for sea trials in the Baltic in Dec. 1940. As the torpedo armament had not been applied at that time, it was deleted.
I want to add a special thank you to Mr. Harold Winkler of Vienna, Austria for his detailing suggestions.
Most of my model ships are 1/600 scale. I find that 1/570 models appear well when displayed with 1/600 models and do not appear too large. I am including photos of this ship displayed alongside my 1/600 Bismarck and Z-28.
