1/700 HMS Canopus (Combrig)
This is my contribution to Canopus group build. HMS Canopus in her 1899/1900
fit. Combrig kit with home made PE parts from Bruno Gire and BMK's brass
barrels. Wood decks were painted in different shades plank by plank. Masts
were scratch built from brass rods. I use Caenis thread for guys and stays
and unwaxed dental floss for signal halyards. Torpedo net fittings were
not provided in the kit so those had to be created from brass rods, plastic
sheets and elastic cords.
David J. Ross' HMS Vengeance builder's model is one of my main references.
I know details are different between Canopus and Vengeance but giving the
lack of better pictures I will settle with that. Originally I wanted to
get rid of kit's solid deck house-like boat deck and rebuild it to match
what's on the real ship. On second thoughts I am no Jim Baumann and life
is short...I would be perfectly happy with what the kit provided then.
