My model of HMS Dreadnought is all scratchbuilt apart from the anchor chains. The hull is made from balsa and plated with card. Superstructure is made of card and paper. Torpedo nets are made of black shoelaces. They were round, so each length was put into a vice and sqashed so they ended up more of an oval shape which fits better on the torpedo net shelves, and has the benefit of looking a bit 'spread'.
The railings are also scratchbuilt from two sizes of wire, and glued with CA on a jig of my own design. The advantage being that the stanchions are round, and sag and irregularities can be easily accomodated.
All the rigging is made of wire
