HMS Nelson
by Bernd Villhauer

1/700 HMS Nelson (Tamiya)

This is the second HMS Nelson I built in the last 3 years. The first one was destroyed by an water inrush in my hobby room during a thunderstorm in June 2006, by which I lost 10 of my ship models. But in that case I was not so unhappy, because the result of my first Nelson build was a little bit disappointing for me. So, for me the result of the new build is more acceptable – and a cold comfort for the disaster 2006.

I built more than 200 parts by hand and in addition I used parts from:
White Ensign – Nelson / Rodney Set
Tom`s Modelwork - Nelson / Rodney Set
Goffy Models - 40mm Bofors (Resin)
Flyhawk - 8 barrelled Pom Pom`s Set / 2x
Saemann - Rails and Ladders, Baseplates for the 20mm Oerlikons
Eduard - Figures
Lion Roar - Copper rods in different diameters
Evergreen - different materials

The colors are basically from White Ensign (my favorite paints), but also from Humbrol and Revell.

Building time about 150 hours (or more, I can`t remember – my wife says more - considerably more).

I would like to say "Thank you" to my neighbour Werner Trautmann for his help - he is the manufacturer of the wooden bases of my ship models - as well as to the people of "Archetekturbedarf.de" for the delivery of the Plexiglas-cut for the small vitrines I build to protect my models against unmeant touching. Thank you ……..
