HMS Queen Elizabeth

1/500 HMS Queen Elizabeth (Revell Kitbash)

This is my conversion of a KGV Revell kit. I have tried to make an HMS Queen Elizabeth out of it. I raised the superstructure and made a cedar hull. The main battery is made of USS Arizona triple 14's with the center barrel removed from a trimmed turret. I am not happy with the guns and I am working on a more accurate turret

The scale started out as 1/570 but I have tried to stretch this out to 1/500. I guess I ended up somewhere in the middle. I added pe rails and radar.

It was fun to try and I think it looks close to what the ship looked like in 1943 after 3 months in an American shipyard to repaire a 40 foot hole in her bottom put there by the Italians.

I have added a more accurate main battery of 15" twin guns from Eastern Express's HMS Royal Sovereign. The only reference I have is a color picture from one of those books which compare all battleships to a KGV, so I must appologise for the many liberties taken with this ship but I am happy with it anyway. Thank God the USS South Dakota did not have to fight a KGV, It would not have had a chance. yuk yuk.
