HMS Repulse

1/700 HMS Repulse (B-Resina)

At last, a 1/700 HMS Repulse in 1924 fit. Originally the B-Resina kit but heavily modified.

This project has been a pipe dream of mine for some time, and I finally got round to doing it. There is no model of HMS Repulse as she appeared on the 1924 Empire Cruise in any scale, and since I already had the Hood in this fit in 1/720 and there's nothing better than seing the two most beautiful battlecruisers in the world together I finally bit the bullet and went for the Repulse conversion.

This was much more difficult than Hood. The B-Resina kit has a solid molded on resin hangar which had to be removed, and the bridge structure was discarded entirely. The compass platform and centre weather deck section were scratchbuilt from styrene sheet, and various small details such as 4" triple mounts were made from balsa wood. Masts and yardarms were made from steel rod.

Photo-etch was a combination of spare bits I had lying around from frets for RN battleships (GMM), HMS Hood (WEM) and HMS Royal Oak (Tom's Modelworks).

The final few photos show the two ships together as they should be.
