HMS Tiger
by Paul Helfrich

1/2400 HMS Tiger (GHQ)

This beautiful ship with its distinctive three funnelled profile was a "one-off" - no other ship exactly like it was ever produced for the Royal Navy. She followed the three "Lion" class battlecruisers and was an improvement on their design, including more power, better protection, and better arcs of fire for her four 13.5" gun turrets. She took 15 11" shell hits at Jutland but, unlike some of the earlier battlecruisers, survived the battle.

I think she is one of the prettiest ships ever to sail under the White Ensign. It's a shame Airfix never produced a 1/600 "Tiger" - it would make a nice companion to their kits of the "Repulse" and "Hood."
