HMS Warspite

1/192 HMS Warspite (Scratchbuilt)

My submission this time is a model of one of the most famous battleships of the 20th century HMS Warspite. This Queen Elizabeth class battleship saw action in two World Wars. From her completion in May 1915 up till the end of her active career, she engaged her country's enemies all over the world. Her exploits are so well documented elsewhere that it is frivolous to repeat them here, instead I will give a short resume of this model's building details..

The model was orginial built over 20 years ago but, like all my other models, over the years I keep updating it on a regular basis.

The plan on which the model was based is from the 1/192 scale A&A plans range plus additional research from other sources. During the the period the model represents, namely late 1942, HMS Warspite still retained the same camouflage colours- 507a and 507c but adopted a slightly different pattern having less pronounced angles than her earlier pattern. This second scheme was carried from late 1942 up to the time she went to the breakers.

The material used for the hull and superstructure is soft wood with brass and/or stainless steel used for small items including gun barrels, masts, railings and aerials.

This model forms part of my Battleship collection, from which I hope to exhibit a few more models in the coming months.
