1/700 IJN Nagato (Fujimi)
This Model has a lot of ‘firsts’ for me. My first Imperial Japanese Navy ship. My first 1:700 scale ship. My first waterline kit. My first attempt to create a water setting. The Fujimi kit is very well made and most parts fit well together. The pagoda superstructure is certainly the most distinctive shape of the Japanese battleship and I had to take time to fit all the pieces so that the superstructure built up level and plum.
Aftermarket parts included Gold Metal Models 1:700 IJN WW2 Battleships
photo-etch. Railings, crane boom, catapult and floatplane carts worked
well but the searchlight platform surrounding the stack was over-scale
so I ended up using the kit parts.
Paint is PolyScale, sealed with Future and then weathered with oil-based
enamels. Rigging is 30 denier clear line dyed black.
