IJN Nagato

1/200 IJN Nagato (Fly Model)

my recently completed battleship IJN Nagato in 1/200 scale paper. The kit is print by Fly Models of Poland and is an older paper kit. The model quality is actually very good for its age. The hull assembly was straight forward and the fit was better than average. The turrets are excellent and were fitted with after market CNC turned aluminum barrels. The bridge construction was actually fairly easy with the exception of cutting out the wind frames. The paper airplanes went together exceptionally well and the detail is excellent.

I used Tom’s 1/200 2-bar rails and ladders. The frames on top of the turrets are from styrene as well as the masts. The 6-pole tower bridge is all paper. It is easy to see why the Japanese chose a six pole mast, an opponent would have to shoot out 3 poles to topple it as opposed to only one on other ships.

The flags are all bitmap images that I made, they include the first admiralty flag, the naval ensign, and the national flag. The signal flags were added but there is no significance to the arrangement other than I liked the way the looked.

The turrets are placed into the barbets and do rotate, also will fall out if the model is rolled over.

Spring and summer are coming so this is the last completed model for a while. I did start on DKM Sharnhorst but do not expect to work on her much over the next 5 – 6 months.
