This is my attempt to construct a full hull 1/700 Yamato .I have started this project in the summer of 2006 with the acquisition of a Takara 7-piece model of Yamato and a new tool yamato from Tamiya.Cutting and gluing together in a uniform fashion the hull from the takara model is not as straightforward as it might seen from a first look.Lots of sanding to eliminate the big gaps between the sections and lots of corr ecting and readjusting until i reach a streamline hull.Next as i wanted to give an authentic look to the massive area of the yamato deck i decided to replace the deck with balsa wood which i sanded and scribed with a knife before i stained it lightly with oils.At that time the project was diverted to a commissioned built so i decided to cut back a bit on the overall time and detail in favor of keeping price and time of built as low as possible , without sacrificing too much.Hence a lot of smaller details that i could have replace or add were omitted intentionally (like rails at the stern area ,new etched machine guns ,or new reels and smaller details on the superstructure itself, etc).Overall a very satifying once finished built but also a bit costly and time consuming .As at this time i am writing this , there are no other alternatives to my knowledge of a full hull Yamato in 1/700 (still waiting Fujimi's).The etched is a combination of GMM set and Tom's Modelworks.
