30CM The Orange Yamato (Minihobbies)

This is the same Minihobbies Yamato that I didn’t like very much. I love the Yamato but this kit of it really bites. Jorit (Jwingties) and Eric both had some really funny things to say about my original paint job. (Yuck it up guys, I WILL get even.) So I changed it to a very conservative monotone hull using the Tamiya "“RLM Grey"” Then they didn’t like that either. Eric suggested a “plaid” and Jorit dared me to make it orange. Now Jorit hates the Yamato with a passion, he wants to stomp on every Yamato model in sight. So I made it orange just to make sure he couldn’t miss it.

Now here’s where it got interesting. I brush painted the hull in Tamiya Acrylic X-6 orange. When I went to touch up the lower hull with Tamiya Acrylic XF-9 (hull red, diluted with a couple of drops of water to make a wash) a really neat thing happened. The orange when it dried picked up some of the red wash and looks EXACTLY like iron plate which has been stripped but not primed yet. A bare metal slightly rusted and weathered color. This is the same color you would see if you chipped and scraped a real piece of iron plate.

So something good came out of screwing around with a lousy kit. See what you think.
