USS Maine

1/426 USS Maine (Revell Kitbash)

Inspired by Bob Rosenburgh's kitbashed USS Oklahoma BB-73, I wanted to build up a third USS Maine between USS Maine BB-10 and the planned USS Maine from the canceled Montana Class battleships. This is a 'what if' third Pennsylvania class battleship. To modify the bridge,I used parts from Lindberg, Tamiya and Revell and a 1/350 scale Arizona also donated parts. A new aft structure was built over the mainmast tripod base.

I removed all the railings and splinter shields. Most of the 230 portholes were drilled out and a new armor belt was installed above the main torpedo belt ledge. A new rudder will be scratch-built. Also planned are new 50 foot torpedo boats. The original Maine, along with the second BB-10 USS Maine were originally planned to carry torpedo boats. I wanted to do the same for this model.
