Today I finished my latest project, the 1/700 Tsessaravitch. The kit is a resin kit from Combrig.
The build was more or less straightforward. However all the masts and similar parts (as usual in full resin kits) had to be replaced. The original ones are of no use.
The large midships boat handling cranes were scratch built with PE boat davits and pieces of ladders. The masts were made of steel. I also scratch built various other parts of the model. The major PE parts were taken from the "Askold" fret offered by White Ensign Models which includes a lot of useful parts for ships from this era.
The rigging was made with stretched sprue, the water is Vallejo Water effect gel, which I applied within a picture frame. The bottom of the frame was painted black to give the water a nice dark colour. The small sailing boat is out of the spare’s box. The sail is PE and from White Ensing's set "Naval ships boat details". The Mast is made of steel and a few more items were added to polish it up a bit. The crew is from Eduard.
I would like to thank Jim Baumann a lot at this point for his kind help with links to magnificent pictures of the original vessel and for his tips which were very helpful for me.
I painted the model in the main with an airbrush and with Valeljo, Tamiya and Gunze colours. Weathering was applied with powder paint. The flag is made out of paper.
