The first time I saw a picture of the Pelayo I was thrilled. Since the picture was in connection with the Yadar model it was clear to me that I had to build it too. Then I saw Jim Baumann’s Pelayo and his description and I was full of anticipation of the model kit. When I opened the box I realized this would be no easy task. Basically everything would either have to be redesigned or made from scratch right down to the hull. Since there is little literature and only few Internet websites regarding the Pelayo I was happy to at least be able to go by Jim’s specifications. Jim Baumann for me is not only the best ship model builder but he also does the most thorough research and is a stickler for detail. Thus I was able to use his design and specifications without thinking twice, helped by some information from other sources, and I was able to create a model which, while giving me some headaches was fun to build.
There were over 400 parts altogether which I built from various materials and added to the kit.
I dedicate this model to Jim Baumann, since I wouldn’t have been able to do it without his instructions – and what’s more: for the joy I feel every time I see a model warship that says “built by Jim Baumann”.
