I have enclosed two pictures of my latest creation, or to be accurate, an
improvement. This is the comet 1/1200 USS Des Moines, converted to the USS
Newport News. I replaced the main gun barrels with stryene rod, took the
5-inch guns off and replaced them with those from the 1/1200 Revell
Missouri. I scratchbuilt the masts out of stryene rod and struts. I also
added the "ears" to the rangefinders, and painted the whole thing with
pollyscale acrylics. The base is that of a 1/24 scale car, covered with
textured waves made of spackle. I painted the base and gave it two coats of
future floor wax. The model will end up being given to a former crewmember
who was on the Newport News in the early 1960's.
