1/350 USS San Francisco CA-38 1942 (Trumpeter)
This kit was augmented with Gold Medal Models photoetch set and L'Arsenal 1.1" quad machine guns, with equal numbers of L'Arsenal and Veteran 5" .25 caliber secondary guns. I used Polly Scale Navy Blue 5-N watercolor paint for the vertical surfaces and Polly Scale Weathered Deck Blue 20-B for the decks and other horizontal surfaces, then slightly dulled them by lightly airbrushing a mixture of dark blue and light gray Tamiya acrylic paints. I wanted to portray the ship as she would have appeared prior to the first Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in November 1942.
