I utilized the excellent Tom's Modelworks New Orleans class PE set. While the brass tends to be very delicate, it is forgiving. I have the Hold N Fold tool - get it if you don't have one! - it made the searchlight tower a breeze to construct. I cannot imagine doing this strictly by hand. The Tom's tower is very very delicate and gives a very pleasing appearance when complete. Though it's hard to see in the photos, it has built in "holed supports" on the tower.

The SOC Seagulls came with the kit. The railing and cats came from the GMM USN cruiser destroyer PE set. The figures, horizontal/inclined ladders and hose reels are from GMM as well. The bridge supports port and starboard are made from .006 brass. Additionally, the aft bridge large lattice support is scratchbuilt utilizing .010 brass and spare "X" PE parts. While that was fiddly, the end result was rewarding.

The rigging is .002 Dai Riki monofilament. Very easy to work with as it is forgiving if brushed against during construction. I found that sprue breaks far too easily. Hope this helps in your construction. The paint is from White Ensign Models (Colourcoats line). It is Modified MS 12 dapple patter (5-O Ocean Gray, 5-N Navy Blue and 5-H Haze Gray).

The 5"/25 Cal. secondary guns and the 20mm AA guns are from Corsair Armada. I just wasn't happy with the kit supplied guns.
