This is a kitbash of Revell's Gneisenau/Scharnhorst battlecruisers in 1/570. After losing a bidding war for a Nichimo 1/500 Graf Spee, watching it go for more than 75$,I started to look at the rest of the fine German warships. I started seeing some similarities.
My Graf Spee uses the control tower from Gneisenau as its funnel. Radar, aircraft, two thirds of the main battery, and AA weapons were used along with a wood control tower and plastic trim. The 5.9's came from a Lindberg Hood.
With the exception of the control tower and cedar hull, it is all Gneisenau. Some brass for a cutwater and cheap jewelry for anchor chain along with PE from GMM finish it off.
I would like to give credit (or blame) for the color scheme to Captain J.E. Moore R.N..

Anybody need an 11" German triple turret in 1/570?
