1/600 HMS Tiger C20 (Airfix)
This little scene was inspired by an old photography and shows Britain's
last gun-cruiser HMS Tiger lying in front of Fort St Elmo/Malta in 1960.
Due to the small size of the base I had to reduce the distance between
the ship and the shoreline a little. The cruiser is an old 1/600 Airfix
kit with a lot of modifications. Almost every deck and all the superstructures
had to be milled off and rebuilt with plastic sheet. I used photoetched
parts mainly from WEM, but also from Flyhawk, Eduard and Lion Roar. The
main gun barrels were exclusive made by BMK. The two tugs came from Tamyias
1/700 Tugger Set. I used the longer hulls without modifications and built
only new superstructures in 1/600. The whole base is made of Styrofoam.
The shore, the breakwater and the walls of Abercrombie's Bastion were formed
with model plaster. The seaside was sealed and colorized with dispersion
paint and coated with clear gloss varnish.
