HMS Aboukir

1/1250 HMS Aboukir (Navis)

A Navis 1/1250 armored cruiser HMS Hogue converted to its sister, HMS Aboukir. I modelled the Aboukir as it was sinking, after being struck by a torpedo from the U-9 on September 22, 1914. The U-9 sank the Aboukir, Hogue, and third sister HMS Cressy in a span of less than two hours.

The model is mostly stock, except for a 1/16 of an inch plastic strip I glued on the Aboukir's left side, then planed and smoothed down so it would have a nice starboard list, and a small piece of plastic rod which replaced the funnel on the ship's launch. I also repainted the whole ship, rigged it from stem to stern with paint large brush bristles, then mounted it on the base, and filled any gaps with white glue.
