HMS Exeter
by John Bange

1/500 HMS Exeter (Scratchbuild)

I have built this ship from scratch before using parts from other kits and a wood hull. Without good photos, the results have been poor. There are very few good photos of this gallant vessel.

This old Frog kit was very good and I am pleased with the way it turned out.

I started with a cedar hull. I do not have good luck cutting at the waterline. A few pieces of basswood replaced some plastic I could not use. The rest of the kit is as supplied.

No Walrus was supplied so I dug one out of my parts box and mounted it on an excellent supplied catapult. I added a pair of 20mm's to the after superstructure. Brass etch railings, ladders, and hatches along with some gold anchor chain finished it off.

She is shown as she appeared after refit from damage at the River Platte.
