This is the first powered warship I ever built. I got the plans from David MacGregor & because I wasn't sure if I could manage it, I began by making the top section of funnels & bridge. This turned out OK and I proceeded onto the rest of the upperworks.
I then built the hull which was fairly simple. It was made of obeche wood & plated with normal writing paper. The decks were scored 1/32nd marine plywood. The boats were vacuum formed from plasticard. On completion my wife Christine painted the sea & made a particulrly good job of it, capturing the character of a big warship moving at speed.
My model of HMS Norfolk was sold privately to an old friend who had sailed in HMS Dorsetshire during the war.
