1/700 IJN Suzuya (Tamiya)

This is the old mould version by Tamiya of Japanese WWII cruiser Suzuya of the Mogami class. Suzuya packed a punch that U.S. heavy cruisers didn't in the form of torpedo tubes. But it was the torpedo tubes that caused her demise in the battle off Samar. A near-miss by a bomb from an American plane caused detonation of a torpedo in one of her starboard mounts, which in turn, caused more torpedo warheads to go off, dooming the ship. Unlike the high pagoda-like bridge structures of IJN battleships the Mogamis were low-slung, and sleek.
