1/700 IJN Kako Heavy Cruiser (Hasegawa)

IJN Kako was commissioned on July 20, 1926. IJN Kako was rebuilt in 1937. The model is based on the Hasegawa 1/700th scale waterline kit. IJN Kako’s wartime service was primarily as a unit of Japanese Cruiser Division Six which was an escort force. She participated in the invasions of Guam, Wake and Rabaul. She escorted carrier Shoho during the Battle of the Coral Sea. She engaged the USS Astoria and the USS Vincennes during the battle of Savo Island August 9, 1942 and is credited with inflicting damage on the Vincennes. August 10, 1942 Kako is torpedoed by the USS S-44 and sinks in less than half an hour with the loss of 134 men.
