USS Olympia

1/232 USS Olympia (Revell)

Replaced the kit’s clunky-looking gun doors and cannons with scratch-built ones. Scratch-built the stern gun doors in the closed position. Toms Model Works photo-etch set was well worth the investment . Used stretched sprue for rigging. Scanned and printed out decal sheet onto paper, the flags were much easier to glue and position in paper form. The paint scheme and lack of life boats reflect how the Olympia looks today, at her berth on Delaware River in Philadelphia. The signal flags spell out GRIDLEY.
