Aurora

1/400 Aurora (Maquette)

Imperial Russian cruiser Aurora; quite a good kit by Maquette with only rigging and flag added to what you get in the box. This ship is still in existence and can be visited in St. Petersburg. Colour scheme based on its current appearance. The forward deck gun fired the famous signal to start the Russian Revolution, hence the ship's preservation. She had already survived the Russo-Japanese War and got through the First World War in the Baltic when the guns were taken down and used on land in the Siege of Leningrad during WW2. It seems rather ironic that the two best-known Imperial Russian ships, Aurora and Kniaz Potemkin Tavritcheski are remembered and revered for their rebellion and mutiny against the authority that built them. One picture shows the two together, the 1/400 Alanger model of Potemkin.
