1/700 USS Ticonderoga CG-47 (Academy/Minicraft)
This is the relatively 'plain Jane' Academy model of CG 47 Ticonderoga.
This time I built full-hull rather than waterline. Built is pretty much
out of box with a few anntenas added. The model is sitting on black and
white film photographs I took from the bridge of BB 61 Iowa as it was being
fitted out for re-commissioning in 1984. The photos are of Ticonderoga's
sister-ship, CG 47 Yorktown, brand new, heading down the channel for sea
trials in the Gulf. My newspaper photo assignment at the time for the Des
Moines REGISTER was to photograph the Iowa, but I couldn't resist snapping
pictures of this brand-new AEGIS cruiser slipping past.
