Kerch, Kara Class

1/700 Kerch, Kara Class (Combrig)

Here's one of my favourite warships - Soviet Kara ASW missile cruiser. These ships were significantly enlarged version of Kresta-II with heavier weapons and all-gas-turbine propelled. Since gas turbine requires bigger funnel Head Net "C" radar was moved to the front of the ship. Increased length allowed to place Oca-M short range system (SA-N-4) and replace 57mm guns by 76mm. This class of 7 ships was built in Nikolaev, Ukraine and was test bed for some of new weapon systems such are TACAN on Petropavlovsk, SA-N-6 VLS AAW system with Top Dome on AZOV. During refit Kerch was upgraded with one-of-the-kind Flat Screen radar on place of Top Sail. Kerch is a last of this class on service for Russian Navy on Black Sea and might not be operational at this moment due to need for repair that was not successful on shipyard in Novorossiysk.

My model was painted with Gunze Hobby colour and detailed with GMM-700-09 and GMM-700-31. Since I like Top Sail radar more then Flat Screen I built my Kerch with first one.
