1/350 Moskva (Trumpeter)
G'day all, this is my model of the Slava class guided missile crusier Moskva . This was my first Trumpeter kit and
was a little more challenging then my previous builds so I enjoyed it more, although I don't really like the clear plastic
the main structures are made with as it is harder to see, but some painted on primer fixed that. I also had to build
some, fill and sand before I could continue because you cannot get to some things if you glue too much on too quick.
For the hull gray , I used WEM Russian baltic fleet gray M20 and below the water line is Gunze H3 red. For the deck orange,
I mixed my own colour from pictures off the net to come up with a colour I was happy with. I also ran the colour past
my good friend Kevin from Fleetline models who agreed the colour was good so here is the mix-
5 parts Gunze H14 orange
1 part Gunze H23 shine red
2 parts Gunze H7 brown
A part can be any size as long as they are all even. With the main deck I finally decided on a colour and method of doing
it as when you look at different photos, every ship was different so this is what I did; I first painted the main deck with
the aformentioned orange, then made a mix of
10 parts Model Master - black to 5 parts Model Master - leather
I then hazed it over the orange in thin coats until I was happy with the results. By doing this, the orange slightly shines through the darker colour and gives the deck a weathered look as this is what it looks like with the photos I have of real ships.
I used a WEM photo etch set and opened the doors on the hanger. With the helo net I painted it chocolate brown and this matched the deck orange nicely.
