1/700 IJN Nagara November 42 (Tamiya)
This is a rather old kit of a venerable light cruiser. After working on it for what seemed like ages and rebuilding it numerous times I decided to quit tinkering and finish the thing with the latest and greatest aftermarket photo etch and various detail sets I could find. Of the different brands and numbers of frets I used for detailing I lost count after using items from 15 different frets.
With each project I attempt a new technique of some sort in order to
broaden my skill sets. This particular build allowed me to try a
couple of new building ideas but more importantly I got the chance to try
some painting/weathering techniques I've been wanting to attempt for some
time. Usually I will weather a vessel with watercolors and/or pastel
chalks ground up into a liquid slurry. This time I tried a series
of new products from AK Interactive. Their enamel weathering washes
and "filters" have proven to be the very best products outside of photo
etch that I have worked with in the past couple of years. I can honestly
say, I'm DONE with anything other than enamel washes or pigments
when it comes to fine highlighting, counter shading or to get that plain
tired look!
