This is my USS Saratoga CV-3 as she looked in 1945. I have painted her in measure 21. By this time of the war she was used as a training carrier.
I made the hull out of cedar and the flightdeck and stack from basswood. the island is made of plastic and pe. the plastic is from Revells Yorktown class kit and is much modified with wooden mark 37's. Revell also supplied the aa weapons but the 5" 38's are from their Missouri. Aircraft are from Revell and Lindburg. The torpedo blisters are of balsa. GMM supplied the pe and the crew is from tom's via FDD.
I am starting to see the value of 1/700 as this carrier and my Essex class ship are close to two feet long. I might have to add on a room.
Saratoga joined Nevada,New York, and Pennsylvania as guests of the AEC in 46 at Bikini. This was a shame.
