1/700 USS Wasp CV-7 (HP Models)
The Wasp was built under the restrictions of the Washington Treaty of 1922. The design was a smaller version of the Yorktown class, but with only two flight deck elevators. There was no hull armor for the Wasp, which contributed to her sinking in Sept. of 1942.Back track to May of 1942, when the CV7 Wasp ferried 47 British Spitfires to Malta in the Mediterranean Sea, along with the carrier HMS Eagle with its own contingent of Spits. This was the second attempt to ferry Spitfires to Malta, as the first attempt was ambushed by the Axis powers, thus requiring the second delivery in May. This mission was successful. The model depicts the Wasp on that journey.
