1/350 USS Essex CV-9 (Trumpeter)
This is Trumpeter's USS Essex and aircraft, with Tom's Modelworks plus Alliance Modelworks photo-etch, L'Arsenal's 5" single mounts, Veteren Models quad 40mm mounts and Master single 20mm cannons, also with crew by Northstar models. The era needed careful study to portray her in late 1943, fairly early in her career while still carrying the legendary SBDs, but after the minor refit and departing Pearl Harbor for service in the Pacific. The build was relatively problem free and I would recommend this kit, although the three part flight deck did need some careful joining, otherwise just the general complexity of delicate parts and rigging needed a lot of care. Please note that other ships in some photos are only for scene setting and comparison; their proximity isn't historically factual.
