"On to Tokyo"
USS Yorktown
The Fighting Lady
In 1/350 Scale
by Andy Elwood

Tom's Modelworks 1/350 resin kit.

This is a large model with a lot of possibility's. I chose to build her after her Sept. 1944 refit at Puget Sound. I added a second flight deck catapult. This was done by using thin metal tape cut into strips applied to deck, then painted strips and deck. I also installed the three 40mm gun mounts on sponsons on the starboard side of the hull just below the island and two 40mm gun mounts on sponsons on the port side about even with rear elevator and a little further back from 1st 40mm gun mounts. I formed out of resin and strip styrene the stern sponson to hold the two 40mm gun mounts that replace the one included in the kit. I cut the rear elevator from the resin deck with a dremel and exacto knife then sanded lightly to shape. Installed the elevator on four legs to desired height. Canopies were opened on some of the aircraft and crew members were added to ready the planes for their next strike.

There are many other modifications that should be evident in the photo's, if not feel free to email me at the address at the top of the page with and questions you may have.
