1/700 USS Yorktown CV-10 (Dragon)
I built the Yorktown as part of the "Aircraft Carrier Group Build" in
2009. I started in July of 2009 and finished the build in February 2010.
My goal was to finish her as she was in 1943 during her shake down cruise
while filming the movies "Wing and a Prayer" and "The Fighting Lady".
I had planned originally to build Dragon's 1945 USS Hornet CV12 but decided
to do something different with the kit and built the shake down cruise
Yorktown.
I used these components for the Yorktown build:
-
Dragon's USS Hornet CV12 1945 kit: #7085
-
Gold Medal Models' "WWII USN Aircraft Carrier PE: 700-7
-
"Figures" #700-17
-
Trumpeter aircraft: F6F's #3406
-
TBF's #3405
-
SB2C's #3407
The ship was painted MS21 using Testors MM Acryl Marine paints
and their standard Acryl paints.
-
Navy Blue 5N #4241
-
Deck Blue 20B #4243
-
Flight Deck Stain 250N #4234
-
Dark Tan #4709
-
Flat Black #4768
-
Insignia Red #4714
The aircraft were painted with Polly Scale Acrylic paints.
-
Sea Blue 607 #50592
-
Intermediate Blue 608 #50594
-
White #50511
-
Interior Green #505308
I used Trumpeter planes instead of the Dragon planes but I did use the
outer folded wing panels form the Dragon planes because of their outline.
