USS Yorktown CV-10
by John Leyland

1/700 USS Yorktown CV-10 1944 (Hasagawa)

This is the second model of my "adult career" done in 1978. The model depicts Yorktown as she appeared after her August, 1944 refit showing her beautiful Measure 33/10A camoflage scheme. The primary reference used was photos in the two Floating Drydock "US Navy Camoflage of the WWII Era" books. The kit dimensions were accepted as correct in those innocent days, so detail errors are probably not hard to find. The twin 5in. gunhouses were taken from another kit, but I don't remember which. Photoetch parts were not on the market yet, so all rail, radar, and antenna detail is from stretched sprue. The single 5in.and 20mm are scratch. The 20mm shields were cut from paper. The "water" base was my last project using the infamous "clear casting resin". As far as we have advanced in references, materials, and especially the photoetch revolution, I still enjoy looking at the old girl.
