1/720 USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CV-42 (Arii Kitbash)
This is a 1/720 model of the FDR around 1964 with CVW-1. It started out as a 1/800 kit of Midway and got chopped, stretched and puttied into its current form.
I used the 5" guns from an extra New Jersey and cut and puttied the twin 5" into single 5"/54's. I did the same thing with the quad 40mm into dual 40 mm guns.
The airwing decals were done on the computer and printed out onto Micro-Mark clear decal paper. The A-3's are Trumpeter. A-4's are skywave and have the "hump" cut off to make them into early A-4Ds . The A-1s, F-8s and F-4s are from the Fujimi aircraft kits for their Conny/Kittyhawk Kits. The Willy Fud is from WEM.
The flight deck was done with Starfighter Decals USS Oriskany Ship Set. I weathered it with black pastel chalk and a cotton ball.
