1/350 USS Kitty Hawk CVA-63 (Trumpeter)
The kit is the Trumpeter 1/350 USS Kitty Hawk kit. I modified the build to approximate her configuration during the 1972 WestPac deployment when I was a VA-192 A-7E pilot in Air Wing 11. I used Shapeways 3D printed AN/SPG-55B radar, Terriers and sponsons, yellow gear and Tilly by BaconFist. Gold Metal Models USS Nimitz Photo-Etch was used to supplement kit PE, as after market PE is all aimed at much later configuration. Trumpeter Viet Nam era aircraft kits were added, and air-wing decals were designed and printed on my ink-jet printer. I also wired the hangar deck so I could illuminate it once the flight deck was in place. Model is currently missing her SPS-30 radar, waiting for BaconFist to finish 3-D model.
